Privacy policy

Last updated 2 October 2026

Gratitude is a gratitude journal. This policy says what the app does with what you tell it, in plain words. The short version: the free app keeps everything on your phone.

What the free app keeps

The words of the things you say or type, the day each one belongs to, and your settings (language, reminder time and similar choices). That is all.

These are stored in a database on your phone. We do not have a copy. There is no account and nothing is sent to us.

Speech recognition

When you speak, the app uses your phone's own speech service to turn your voice into text. On most phones this happens on the device. Some phones, for some languages, send the audio to the speech service of the phone's maker (Apple on iPhone, Google on most Android phones) to do the recognition. That service is part of your phone, not ours, and its use is covered by the maker's privacy policy.

Gratitude keeps the words, not the recording. We never receive your audio.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, the app schedules it on your phone. No server is involved and no push token is sent anywhere. You can change or turn off the reminder in the app or in your phone's settings.

Export and deletion

You can export everything you have kept as a file at any time. Where that file goes is your choice.

Deleting a thing in the app removes it from what you see. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your phone. Because we hold no copy, we cannot recover it for you.

This website

This site sets no cookies. It has no advertising, no tracking pixels and no third party scripts. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for a short time to run and protect the site.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. In the free app we collect none at all.

Premium

Premium is an optional paid subscription with an account, sync between your devices and Luna, up to five minutes of calls a day. Nothing in this section applies until you sign in.

Account: you sign in with your email address and a six digit code we send to it. We store your email, your subscription status and, when sync is on, your kept words and their days on our servers (Supabase), protected so that only you can read them.

Sync: your kept words, their days and your settings are copied between your devices through that account.

Luna: voice calls with an AI voice, up to five minutes a day in all. During the call your voice is streamed to OpenAI to understand and answer you in real time. Nothing is recorded, by the app or by us.

What the call knows: so Luna can keep your three and remember your week, the call's instructions sent to OpenAI also carry the name you chose for the call, the things already kept today, the things you kept on the seven days before, the notes from your last three calls and your notes for the last few months, and, when they fit what you say, a few older things from your list. OpenAI may keep call content for up to 30 days to detect abuse, unless zero data retention applies to our account.

Call notes: after each call we store a short note of what was talked about, one or two sentences and sometimes a question for next time. It is text only, never audio or a transcript, and only you can read it. You can delete a note, it is in your export, and it is deleted with your account.

Search index: so Luna can look back further than a week, the words of the things you keep are also sent to OpenAI, once each, to build a search index of your own list. During a call, what you are talking about is sent the same way to search it. The index is used only for your calls, is never in your export, and is deleted with your account.

Month notes: after each call we also keep a short note for the month, a few sentences on who and what keeps coming up. It is text only, it is in your export, and it is deleted with your account.

Payments go through the App Store or Google Play; we never see your card details. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. You can delete your account from the app: it is purged 30 days later, and signing in before then keeps it.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for anything significant, say so in the app. Questions: support@saygratitude.com.

Analytics on this site

If you tap Allow in the banner at the bottom of the page, this site counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, from our hosting provider. It counts the pages viewed, the site that sent you here, your country and your type of device (phone, tablet or computer).

It sets no cookies, and visits are not linked to you, to an account or to the app, nor followed across other sites. Until you tap Allow, nothing is counted, and if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we never ask and never count.

Your choice is kept in your browser's local storage. To change it, use Privacy choices at the bottom of any page.
