A private journal that lives on your phone
Gratitude is a journal you can start without giving anyone your name or email. Open it, say or type what went well today, and the words are written to a database on your phone. That is the whole setup.
No account, no sign up
The free app has no sign up screen, because there is nothing to sign you up for. Capture, the week of moons, the archive, the Sunday recap, reminders and export all work without an account, with no limit on how much you keep.
We have no copy of what you write, because nothing in the free app is sent to us. There is no profile to fill in, no email list to join and no login to forget.
Everything on the phone
Your things, the day each one belongs to and your settings are stored on the phone itself. The daily reminder is scheduled by the phone too, with no server involved.
Typing works with no connection at all, and on most phones speech recognition runs on the device as well, so the journal works offline: on a plane, in a basement, on a hill with no signal.
Never any audio
Spoken entries are turned into text by your phone's own speech service as you talk, and only the text is kept. Gratitude has no recorder. No audio is written to the phone, uploaded, synced, exported or played back, and our servers have no place to keep a recording.
A small, plain journal
Gratitude keeps three small good things a day, a sentence or two each. That narrow shape is part of the privacy: no mood scores, no photos and no location, just the words you chose to keep and the day you kept them.
Export and delete, whenever you like
Export gives you every word you have kept, with its day, as a file. Where it goes next is up to you. Deleting a thing removes it from your journal, and deleting the app removes everything it stored.
If you have an account, you can delete it from the app or by email. Deletion is scheduled 30 days out, signing in before then keeps the account, and after that everything tied to it is purged from our servers.
What sync moves, when you turn it on
Backup and sync is part of Premium and stays off until you turn it on. When it is on, it moves your kept words, the day each belongs to and a few preferences, such as your language and reminder time, between your phones through your account, where only you can read them.
Sync deletes nothing: a thing you delete on one phone is marked deleted on the other. It never moves audio, because there is none. Export stays free whether you sync or not.
Questions people ask
Do I need an account to use Gratitude?
No. Everything free works without one. An account is only for Premium: Luna's call, backup and sync, and look-backs.
Does the journal work offline?
Typing always works offline. Speaking works offline on most phones, where speech recognition runs on the device; some phones and languages need a connection for it.
Where are my entries stored?
In a database on your phone. With a Premium account and sync turned on, a copy is also kept on our servers so your phones can share it.
Can I get all my entries out?
Yes. Export in Settings gives you every word as a file, free, at any time.
